Stuck indexing a large file

Hello,

I’m wondering if there’s a file size limit? When I drag and drop a markdown file that is 4.5 MAYBE into a vault folder, Obsidian seems to get stuck indexing. I gave up after letting it run for about 1.5 hours

Steps to reproduce

  • Drag and drop a large markdown file (4.5 MB) into a folder within an Obsidian vault
  • Receive a warning that indexing is taking longer than expected
  • Wait 1.5 hours. Seems to still be indexing.
  • Restart Obsidian and receive the same message that the file is taking longer than expected to index.
  • While it is stuck indexing, certain functionality does not work. For example when I try to create a new file and type a name, the file’s name remains “untitled”.

Expected result

  • Expect that it will finish indexing

Actual result

  • Does not finish indexing

There is no limit but some files can be problematic.

That’s helpful to know. Maybe there’s some weird combination of characters in a file that large. Thank you!
