Strange Linked Mentions and Controls at the end of each notes in preview Mode only

I have a weird situation that unfortunately cannot be easily reproduced outside my Vault.

I suddenly (meaning do not remember when) saw that at the end of each Note, when switching to the preview mode, this Linked/unlinked Mentions is coming from (see attached picture)?

As you can see in the picture I have this block with the controls (such as collapse results ) shown only in the preview mode, not in the editor at the end of all my notes and onnly in one vault ( I have others) Changing the CSS does not effect the block except that it will be rendered as the CSS instructs (i.e. sometimes controls are left-justified not centered as in this picture). Disabling the community plugins does not make the block disappear.
The controls are controlled by div.nav-buttons-container.

Steps to reproduce

open a note (random) in this vault in preview mode.

Expected result

Actual result

this block acts as a big footer and is displayed in each note.

Environment

mac OS Big Sur

Additional information

The same behavior is observed when all community plugins are disabled

did you enable backllinks in document?

yeah but I disabled them in the Settings > Backlinks > Show backlinks in document… the only option I can toggle. Or do you mean another setting?

Concerning this issue, I think I isolated the problem.

The block is displayed, as actually expected, by switching the option “show backlinks in document…” on. Accessible in Settings > Backlinks.

But when one switches it off one has to close the current document in order to see the effect, namely the disappearance of the block at the end of the note. Restarting and having the document open or selecting another note and toggling between preview and editor mode is not sufficient.
