Standard copy/paste commands in file explorer

Use case or problem

Working with files and folders in Obsidian’s file explorer requires switching to OS file system for basic copy/paste operations. This adds unnecessary steps and breaks the flow when organizing notes and attachments, or when wanting to copy file to clipboard.

Proposed solution

Add standard copy/paste functionality to Obsidian’s file explorer, matching native OS behavior:

  • Copy/Cut files and folders with Ctrl/Cmd+C/X
  • Paste files and folders with Ctrl/Cmd+V
  • Right-click context menu options for Copy, Cut, and Paste

Current workaround

Opening files in OS file explorer to perform copy/paste operations, or using Obsidian’s “Move file” command which requires manual folder path input.

I also missed this initially, but then I figured out that drag-and-drop with the mouse (instead of Ctrl/Cmd + X … Cut or Move) works, and Obisidan automatically fixes links in notes. [Windows 11]

I still support this feature idea but want to share another workaround.
