I want to use the Web Viewer most of the time. But very often, I want to open an external link in my regular external browser, especially if I know that’s a link that requires one of my existing cookies (I don’t want to have to re-login to everything inside the Web Viewer if it’s just a one-time deal).
Proposed solution
Choose a keyboard modifier (or set of keyboard modifiers) that modifies a mouse click so that the Web Viewer is bypassed.
Current workaround (optional)
I have to right-click on the link and select open link in default browser which isn’t convenient.
I concur - having the context menu is handy, but being able to do a single click on the link with a key modifier would faster and more convenient for me.
You can see that the corresponding keyboard shotcut is displayed. We could have similar design in Obsidian and in the case of this FR open link in default browser could be paired with corresponding hint like ⌥Left Click etc. We could also convey this hint by some other means.
I like the new Web Viewer core plugin, but I realized that sometimes I still want to open links in a browser. Right now I have to right click → “Open in default browser.”
Proposed solution
I would like a new preference or option which changes the way external links work when held. For example, this could be a simple toggle where CMD+Click opens links in the Web Viewer internal browser and regular click opens in the external browser and the toggle reverses that. Or it could be a new option which allows someone to specify a modifier key which they can hold to open the link always in an external browser.
(Alt) Add a command which allows me to take an existing web page open in the internal browser and opens it in the external browser. This wouldn’t be as fast but it would save me a round trip to the mouse.
I haven’t updated to the latest version yet, but I remember being able to simply click on a link (might have needed double-clicks, I don’t recall) to open it in the default browser. Is that no longer the default behavior?
It hasn’t change so by default links open by external browser. You have to manually enable web viewer in settings –> core plugins. In the web viewer settings you can choose how external links open (by default web viewer). If you set open external links to off then you can use web viewer either using right click menu or running command Web viewer: Open web viewer. The command uses your current tab layout. I think for now you cannot initiate web viewer “to the right” or “current tab”.
