Some images not synced when pasted on Windows

Steps to reproduce

  • Open Obsidian on Windows
  • Navigate to a specific website - in my case it is Deuter dot com (company selling backpacks), for example Compact 8 JR
  • Select an image to zoom in
  • Right-click → copy
  • Paste into Obsidian note
  • Open the note on another device
  • Observe uncreated link in the note

Did you try the above steps in the sandbox vault (or just any vault started in restricted mode, no snippets and default theme)?

Yes, restricted mode, reproducible

Expected result

Image is push to Obsidian sync and appears on other devices.
This is the case on a Mac.

Actual result

Image is not uploaded. Note content is changed. Image appears as a broken link on other devices.

Environment

SYSTEM INFO:

Additional information

I am observing this issue only on a Windows machine and only on this particular website. Pasting images from other websites works. Pasting images from this site from Mac works as well.

Some things to look into:

  • Is the image file larger than your Sync plan’s individual file size limit? Plans and storage limits - Obsidian Help It’s 5 MB on Standard, 200 MB on Plus.
  • Are both devices set to sync that image’s file type? Settings > Sync > Sync images if it’s one of the types listed there, or Sync all other types if it’s not in the image list.
  • If that edtz file is created by the Obsidian Edit History plugin, then disable that plugin and try again.
  • You used restricted mode on, I assume, at least one device. Have you tried it with both devices in restricted mode?
  • How about after you update your installer? Update Obsidian - Obsidian Help

If those don’t help, then can you link to a specific image that won’t sync so others can try to reproduce?

I have been able to reproduce this with images from a Deuter website. I cannot post links here, I hope this will be enough to find the page I mean:

Plans and storage limits

  • Is the image file larger than your Sync plan’s individual file size limit? It’s 5 MB on Standard, 200 MB on Plus.

This seems to be the issue. When I paste the image from Mac, the size is 4.8MB. Pasting the same image from Windows creates a 5.68MB file. This exceeds the limit and likely is the reason why the file is not synced.

I think the user would benefit from an error message in such cases. What do you think?
