Snippets placed in snippets folder are immediately hidden from the file system on iCloud Drive

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a new vault anywhere in an iCloud drive on a Mac
  2. Settings > Appearance > Open snippets folder
  3. Add CSS file to the folder
  4. After a few seconds, the file will be hidden from view and only visible when you show hidden files in the macOS Finder

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Y

Expected result

The snippet file should not be hidden

Actual result

The file was hidden, and I needed to show hidden files to see and edit it.

Environment

macOS 14 and 15. macOS 15 in a VM.

Additional information

I want to use iCloud to sync my vault from my Mac to iPad and iPhone. I also want to use custom snippets. The file should not be hidden.

This is a macos issue not Obsidian’s.

You’re right. I’m looking at a lot of issues now with iCloud beyond Obsidian.

On iPhone/iPad there’s no way to unhide the normally hidden .obsidian where the snippet folder of your vault lives…at least, not from the Files app (as opposed to Mac).

But there are alternative if you want to manipulate your css snippets on iPhone/iPad  :

  • You could use the plugin CSS Editor
  • You could use another app … One which can show and access the hidden .obsidian folder, such as Taio (I think) or Textastic (which is paid) … but there could be others
