Slow loading times on large vault on Mac

My TTRPG vault is admittedly large, but the loading times seem far longer than they should be and it appears to be the core plugins rather than the third-party ones slowing it down.

I’m on Mac Sonoma 14.6.1 running on a MacBook M1.

Here’s the last Obsidian start-up time breakdown, but the Core Plugins are all grouped together, so it’s difficult to tell what’s going on. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I’ll take a look! Can you share what core plugins you have enabled?

does disabling the file recovery plugin solve the problem?

Thanks @Liam - Is there a way of getting a listing of those from the debug tools/start-up report? Here are the screenshots otherwise.

Doesn’t seem to. The longest hang on the loading screen is “Loading Workspaces” but it’s difficult to know what’s actually going on there. Here’s the loading report with File Recovery turned off:

command palette->show debug info

That only shows the third-party ones though, no?

If you are willing, zip your vault, upload it somewhere and DM me or liam the link. We’ll take a look.

It’s not really possible. It’s 3.6GB, which could well be some of the problem, but without a breakout of the core plugin load times, it’s difficult to trace.

You could disable one core plugin at time, restart obsidian, and see what happens. Repeat until you find the culprit.

Begin with Backlinks, Files, Graph View, Search, Tag View

Will do. Or I’ll do the half at a time thing.

@apolaine did you figure out why this was happening?

if you try to run obsidian with restricted mode on, does it help?

where is your vault stored exactly?

I was having the same problem just now. I got a message that the Kindle plugin was taking a long time to load and an option to disable it. I diabled it and the vault loaded within 10 seconds.

I had this on my other vault, but on the D&D one that is taking ages to load, it’s the core plugins taking the time. I have a symlink to a massive folder of PDFs, which could be causing it, but I think it’s an Obsidian issue more likely.

Obsidian version: v1.7.3
Installer version: v1.6.3

Try to delete Obsidian and install a fresh copy, the Installer version you’ve is old and isn’t the best way to update, imo.

Also, try to clean up unused workspaces, they make Obsidian slow.

Finally, I don’t have a MacBook M1, but check how much ram Obsidian uses and how much ram is installed. If you’re running low at ram, close other apps and /or update your ram capacity

Thanks, but I’ve updated since then. Same issue. the RAM thing isn’t an issue on MacBooks. Besides, a markdown to HTML text transformer should be super lightweight. I’ll look at the workspaces, but it’s also not those showing up as taking long to load. It’s the core plugins that are the problem.
