Single Column Tables not working in live preview

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create or edit a note
  2. Attempt to create a table with one column
  3. The one-column table is not recognized as a table

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Yes, can reproduce in sandbox vault. No plugins or snippets enabled whatsoever (am a fresh user, just started using Obsidian)

Expected result

I expect to see a table with one column when the cursor moves out of the table’s data, just with multi-column tables.

Actual result

The table is not recognized as a table.

Additional information

I searched Google and these forums and found Live Preview: Support Single Column Table

This is the exact same issue, as far as I can tell.

The last comment from user WhiteNoise states this should be fixed in 1.4.3. However, I am on 1.4.5 and this does not work for me. Hence the re-report.

works for me.

Post a screen recording of this now working in the sandbox vault and attach a copy of the file.

Attached is a screen recording of me trying to make a single-column table in the sandbox vault. I zipped it since no video formats seem to be supported by the upload function.

singlecolumntables.zip (2.5 MB)

So turns out I got this working after all.

Apparently, this was me misunderstanding that Obsidian tables always need table headers. If I try making a one-column table with a table header (| -- | under the first row) it does work.

A table does, in my opinion at least, not always need headers. For example, my use case for these one-column tables was linguistic glossing, for which there is no header column wanted.

I guess I can do a CSS workaround as suggested here: Reddit - Dive into anything but it still feels unintuitive.

Anyway, this is unrelated to this bug so I am marking this as solution. Feel free to close, and thanks for your time.
