Side by side panes do not work with opening links from one pane to the other visible one

We strongly recommend you to search the forum with possible keywords before submitting a new bug report. Please also try your repro steps with third-party plugins and custom CSS disabled and see if it’s still reproducible. If it’s an issue with third-party plugins or themes, try contacting the author for help. Once you’ve done the above, delete this line.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open one pane with links. Open a right side pane from a link with option-command.

Expected result

Subsequent opening of links will open the link in the right side opened menu (before 1.0.3 this happened even without option-command which is expected), but at least with command-option.

Actual result

command or option-command links will open up a new pane, resulting in multiple panes being opened and constant need to close those.

Additional information

Please fix this, it’s been a workflow for me since the very first Obsidian versions before even the pane system. It’s a necessary workflow when working with two documents at the same time.

I am not sure I understand you nor if there is anything wrong.
Post a screen recording of this happening in the sandbox vault.

Command-Click opens a new tab in this pane.
Opti-Command-Click opens a new pane to the right.

Pane = Tab Group.

Pretty easy to repro. Open one file in edit mode, option-commandclick to open a link so it open in a new right pane. Option click or click on any other link on the left side, instead of being directed to the right pane it opens another pane. BTW I found a workaround, keep the left pane pinned, then a command-click on a link will use the same right-side pane.

If nothing else, do not remove this behavior, otherwise we will open up more and more and more and more right side panes for each link opened…

This has never been a thing. Never, since the beginning of Obsidian.
Click opens in this tab.
Option click is used for creating multiple cursors. Not opening links.

“A Pinned tab” means don’t open links here. Currently, Obsidian opens links in an already open tab, but this may change in the future and open links in a new tab.

Please don’t change that. We don’t want tab/pane inflation, two tabs/panes is fine for two-document editing side by side.
