I would guess this is a theme issue or setting.

I updated the installed themes (I though it’d be automatic) and today I’m seeing more letters/words. Thanks though.

Yeah, as of now, you need to remember to check for theme and plugin updates manually. It’s a good first step if something is acting strange.
