Should links be expanded when selecting text including them?

Steps to reproduce

  1. Paste this text in a file

    I’ve been to a few over the past 2 years. Found one I really love in Portugal but they’re not accepting new permanent residents. You can check out the directories on ic.org and ecovillage.org and then keep in mind that the communities signed themselves up for these directories and many of them don’t do that (so there are even more of them)

  2. Select text with Shift+ :arrow_down: until you hit a link
  3. Continue selecting until the cursor is past that link.

I don’t use CSS snippets, and I use the default theme.

Expected result

Links should not be expanded as the selection goes over them, because they can’t be edited anyway, and expanding them disrupts the mental model of where the cursor will go / how long to press it to reach a desired spot.

Actual result

Links stay expanded even after the cursor passes them, which doesn’t happen when moving the cursor withoutShift.

This is an interesting topic, and we have some ideas on how to improve link selection/edit in live preview, however it belongs to Feature Requests not Bug Reports.
