Shortcut to open current file in a linked split view in reading mode

I often want to edit a file in preview mode on one tab, but see the reading view mode of the file in a split tab. It seems cumbersome to manually set this up every time I open a file. I’d like to have a left pane with tabs of my files in preview mode, and a right pane with tabs of those same files in reading mode. I would like each of these right pane files to be linked to their left pane preview mode files.

I’ve seen that having a file open in a linked preview and reading mode across a split is a common way to work, I’m curious if others are setting them up manually or if there is an automated way or shortcut.

I usually cmd/ctrl + click on the book/pen icon.

There’s also the Split right command, then manually linking and changing the view of the second tab group.

Thank you. cmd/ctrl + click on the preview/reading mode botton solves the most repetitive part:

  1. opening a duplicate view of the file,
  2. viewing the file in reading mode,
  3. viewing it in a split pane

I notice that if I already have a right/left split (2 panes visible), it will create a new split (3 panes now visible). I’d prefer if it opened the file in the right pane that is already there. Unless someone knows a setting that will open the file in the split that already exists, I am content each time to drag the tab into the split I already have.

Also, it would be nice if when I switched between preview mode file tabs in the left pane, the corresponding reading mode file tab on the right was also displayed.
