Setting to make task plugin create recurring tasks only with future dates

Hi everybody,

First, I want to thank both Ms. Macrae and Mr. Landikov for maintaining the task plugin. As an adult with ADHD, it has helped me a lot. I have been using it for about two months and helps me keep on top of things better than anything else I have tried (including the Bullet Journal Method)

Second, I feel this question is a bit elementary, but I have tried figuring out the answer by myself or searching for a solution in the forum, and I cannot find it. If this has been answered before, I would appreciate to be guided to the appropriate post.

So, this is the thing: I have a master task list and a capture method implemented from this video by Mike Schmitz, and have a few queries on my daily note (I use the journal plugin instead of daily notes). I have set recurring tasks for what I imagine is the usual: birthdays, bills, household shores, and, for me the most important: routine items. For example, I have a “Shutdown routine” to perform in the last twenty minutes of my work day: Last check of inbox, upload working files to the cloud, update my project logs, etc. I took the week of the 21 to the 25 off. On the 28th when I returned, I noticed that the item would not disappeared (my queries are for tasks that are not done) when I checked them. I went to the master task list and saw that when I checked, it checked the task for the 21st (nothing wrong, it got created the Friday before I took off, so it makes sense), but created the new task for the 22nd, even though, that date was already in the past.

I figured there should be some setting that would allow me to indicate that new recurring tasks should be populated for future dates only, so, that when I checked the task on the 28th (even if it was due on the 21st), the next recurring task created would be the 29th, not the 22nd. But I searched the plugin settings and did not find a thing. Is it possible to do what I want automatically?

Thanks.

I believe this section of the documentation addresses your need: Recurring Tasks - Tasks User Guide - Obsidian Publish

So if I understand it correctly you need to add “when done” to your recurring task and it’ll base the next date in when you completed the previous one instead of when the task was due for.

Hi @holroy

Thanks a bunch. I don’t know why I had not found that page while googling, but I was certain it had to be something that simple. It works as expected.

Sorry for the late reply. This has been a crazy week.
