Use case or problem
Whenever I click an orphaned link and Obsidian creates a new note for it, I almost always want it to be in the same folder as the note.
But when I am using the ctrl+n hotkey, I almost always want it to be in the vault root or specified folder.
Proposed solution
Instead of a single “Default location for new notes” there would be two options in the “Files & Links” settings:
- Default location for new notes from “Create new note” command
- Default location for new notes from clicked links
Current workaround (optional)
It might be possible to set the current option to the desire link behavior, and then using a plugin to create a new command which creates notes and then change the ctrl+n hotkey to use the plugin’s version.
Other than that I’m not sure how to work around this.
