Search for exact word

What I’m trying to do

When in a card/file and trying to add a link to another file, I either type [[ or choose the item from the toolbar. I then type a word that I think is in the title of the card I’m looking for (could be in the body too). For example, I might type “[[action]]” (without the quotes). Obsidian gives me a list of files that include the word action but it also includes anything with the letters a c t i o n in that order. For example, “In a conversation, be a midwife”. How do I get it to only return items with the whole word “action”?

Things I have tried

I’ve tried putting the word “action” in quotes in the search: [[“action”]] (with quotes)
I’ve tried on both PC and iOS

Both PC and iOS versions are up to date.

Thoughts?

This is the default behavior of Obsidian’s core plugin Quick Switcher.

Thanks! Any suggestions on making it only find whole words? I read the page you linked to and it just gave an overview.

I don’t think it is possible.

If you search this forum for Quick Switcher, you’ll find a wide range of opinions how it should work. I haven’t found your idea, so you might have to write a feature request.

Thanks again for replying. This is the weirdest search behavior I’ve ever seen. Can’t believe it works this way. I guess I’ll learn to live with it. I’ll do the search you suggest so at least I’ll understand why anyone would want it this way.

the algorithm works in a way that exact matches will be on top
so there’s nothing wrong with it
