Science Research Vault – A Structured Workflow for Academics

Hi everyone,

I’m a PhD student in biomedicine and have been using Obsidian to manage my research workflow. Over time, I’ve developed a vault structured around managing STEM projects; to keep track of literature, experiments, writing, and project management in one place. I wanted to share my approach in case it’s useful to others in research or academia.

Structure & Features

Maps of Content - Overviews linking related notes within research topics

  • Literature Review – Zettelkasten-style notes with backlinks for integrating ideas
  • Paper & Grant Writing – Templates for manuscripts, proposals, and abstracts
  • Experiment Tracking – Logging protocols, results, and analysis notes
  • Project Management – Tracking research, meetings, and collaboration tasks

The goal is to create a system that reduces scattered notes, improves organization, and makes it easier to track progress on research projects. As I’ve developed and used it, I’ve found its made my research life much easier.

Feel free to download the vault for yourself on Github here! This is my first Obsidian / coding project, and I’d love it if anyone else finds it useful.

The .obsidian file has been uploaded, so the plugins should be there when you download the vault. Thank you to the person who pointed out this issue to me!

29.01.2025 Update: Plugin Folder Successfully Uploaded :tada:

The .obsidian/plugins/ folder has now been successfully uploaded. Please make sure to enable all CSS snippets by going to Settings > Appearance > Scroll to the bottom and enable all the snippets.

If you clone this repository, all necessary plugins should be available. Let me know if there are any other issues to fix.

Update: Issues running JavaScript and CSS once downloaded are currently being fixed.
