If I insert a RTL word inside a LTR title, it forces the entire title to the right side and treats the entire title as RTL text with a snippet of LTR inside it, even if the RTL text is encased in punctuation such as quotation marks.
This makes NO SENSE. The text should be accepted AS I ENTERED IT. Since I am pasting a small piece of RTL text inside an otherwise LTR title, Obsidian should honor my wishes and NEVER change the text I already entered. Furthermore, punctuation entered in LTR mode should be preserved that way, so even if Obsidian cannot work out that a string beginning with RTL text is still generally LTR (as other apps I use can figure out) then the quotation marks should make this easy. The only way for this bug to exist is for Obsidian to make changes to the entire string after the fact. This is very frustrating.
Steps to reproduce
- Type something in English like “Hello Obsidian” in the title of a new note.
- Paste “שָׁלוֹם” at the beginning of the title.
- Notice the order being surprisingly screwed up.
- Remove “שָׁלוֹם”.
- Add two double quotes at the beginning of the title
- Paste “שָׁלוֹם” in between the double quotes.
- Notice the title again getting surprisingly screwed up and out of order.
Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]
YES
Expected result
The RTL text should have remained on the left where I put it, especially after adding the quotation marks. There is no reason that RTL text can’t coexist with LTR text without taking precedence and forcing the entire string to be RTL. Let’s see how Discourse handles this:
“שָׁלוֹם“ can begin a line without forcing the whole line to be treated as RTL.
שָׁלוֹם can even begin a line without quotation marks.
Actual result
The entire string became RTL, with a LTR snippet inside
