Removing Images From the Vault Did Not Shrink the Size of Storage Usage in Obsidian Sync

Question

Is there a way to shrink the size of the remote vault without completely deleting it. By which I mean removing the images from the remote vault.

Any idea would be appreicated!

tldr: Tried to Reduce Storage Usage in Obsidian Sync but Failed

I subscribed to Obsidian Sync Standard 2 months ago, and I have used 1/4 of the storage already. I decided to upload all the images to github as they occupied most of the room. However, after removing ~80 images, the amount of storage usage still keeps at 269.14MB.

I am assuming this is due to the Bulk Restore and Version History Feature, which allows you to see the difference between notes as time progresses.

Later

I have deleted the old remote vault and re-synced a new one in 20min. Problem solved… for now.

Hi!

I faced the same problem.
Could you describe, how did you manage to delete old remote vault?

Thanks in advance!

Obsidian sync has version history feature. The deleted files will be purged when their availability window closes.

You don’t need to delete and create a new vault.

Generally, you can wait until the attachments are cleared out.

However, if you did want to delete and recreate your remote vault, we do have instructions on how to do so on our help docs. Plans and storage limits - Obsidian Help
