I’m relatively new (2 months) to Obsidian. I’d like to do more of my writing in Obsidian, but can’t figure out how to easily reorder paragraphs (blocks?) around to reorder them. Other than cut & paste, are there any other options? That’s the one thing I miss most from Notion and Drafts.
Hi @EightWheels,
There are built-in commands called:
- Move line up
- Move line down
Found in the command palette (ctrl / cmd + p
).
I recommend setting up hotkeys for these commands. I personally use: shift + ⇧ and shift + ⇩ at the moment.
Move line up: shift + alt + 🡅
Move line down: shift + alt + 🡇
Edit: Improved the shortcuts, so they don’t conflict with text selection.
Thank you so much!!! That’s pretty much what I was looking for, or at least accomplishes the same thing. I set up the same hotkeys, and they work great. Actually, this might be better than the option to drag lines/paragraphs around because I can keep my hands on the keyboard. You saved Obsidian for me!
At least on Mac, and I believe on other systems, shift-arrow selects text. If you didn’t already know that then you probably won’t miss it, but FYI.
Yeah, I was just coming back to note that. I keep losing my hotkey settings for some reason, so I reassigned those on a whim. Now I use:
Move line up: shift + alt + 🡅
Move line down: shift + alt + 🡇
This exact shortcuts are actually built into Word for the same purpose, so they will work there too.
