Properties View: Add property above/below, move property

Use case or problem

Adding properties in the property view button being located at and adding to the bottom of the list and needing to drag and drop the properties to the desired order is often quite tedious. Even the very unclear cut/paste (I assumed it would overwrite the property pasted onto and therefore never tried it) operations always paste the the bottom. It’s even worse when you have enough properties to make the list scroll as it can become quite difficult to have be precise due to how fast the scroll goes and often stutters and flickers. I prefer to avoid drag and drop unless there’s only a couple properties on the file.

Proposed solution

Add a right click context menu to properties in properties view with the options of:

  • Add property above
  • Add property below
  • Move up
  • Move down
  • Move to top
  • Move to bottom

I hope that we have like a handle to grab and drag property to quickly organize them. It is similar to the table widget, so I think it is doable.

At the moment, whenever I want to change property position, I have to go to source mode, cut and paste to move. Quite a workflow, not really good UX.

You can currently drag and drop them by grabbing them in property view. If that isn’t working for you, you may need to try in safe mode or in a sandbox vault.

I’ll be damn, lol, I didn’t know this. I thought it would share the same visual cue as that of table but that works. Thank for letting me know.

No problem! Thanks for mentioning the table drag and drop! I haven’t really experimented with tables, but I definitely didn’t realize that was possible :joy:. I agree with you that the cursor indicator for grabbing would be expected in the properties view as well.
