Prioritize title matches in content search

Use case or problem

Title search (switcher) is ephemeral. A lot of times you need to go back to the results. I (and many) make do with content search which, thankfully, also searches titles.

Proposed solution

An option to prioritize matches in titles, before applying the regular sort. Again, optionally.

I am not sure exactly what you are asking.

Prioritizing titles kind of makes sense, but it’s not clear where you mean. You mean prioritize titles in the main Search pane?

And then, why mention Quick Switcher (I assume that’s what you mean by “switcher”) is ephemeral? Do you mean to mention that as the reason that you are relying on the main Search pane plugin? But sorting by titles first doesn’t really address the search being ephemeral.

  1. The search pane has file: which can search file names (titles).
  2. “Sort search results by relevance” is planned in the Roadmap. Perhaps it will end up helping in this regard.
  3. There are various search community plugins. Are you open to trying any of those? (Part of the FR template asks which workarounds or alternatives you may have discovered or tried.)
  4. This existing FR is quite relevant and does specifically mention titles coming first: Global search: Sort search results by relevance (and what relevance is). Reading through this long thread might offer some other ideas or workarounds for now. But you should likely vote there, rather than making a new thread.

Ephemeral as in: search results (and search term) are lost once you click away. You have to do it again and again to get back to the result list.

I am not sure exactly what you are asking.

Yes. Show them at the top in the search pane.

But file: is what I need for now. Thanks
