Plugin to create index of headers

I’m new to the forum, this seems to be the most correct category for asking this question.

What I’m trying to do

Have an index of the headers at the beginning of the md file like:

  • [[# head1]]
  • [[# head2]]
    • [[## head2.1]]
  • [[# head3]]

I tried searching in the plugin list but I didn’t find anything. I am thinking of doing it myself, but before starting I wanted to make sure it doesn’t already exists.

Tried ‘table of contents’? Perhaps this:

What search terms did you use, and did you find related plugins that weren’t suitable? At a glance I see 2 that have “table of contents” in the name.
