Tinymist for Obsidian — Write Typst in Obsidian. Properly.

If you use Typst for academic, technical, or professional documents and Obsidian for your notes and research, I built a plugin that brings the two together.

Tinymist for Obsidian integrates the Tinymist language server into Obsidian, allowing .typ files to live and behave like first-class documents in your vault.

What it provides

  • Typst language intelligence — syntax support and compiler diagnostics as you write
  • Live preview — see the rendered document alongside your source
  • Source ↔ preview navigation — jump between the source and rendered document
  • Real Typst projects — project roots, imports, assets, bibliographies, and data files
  • PDF export — generate PDFs directly into your vault
  • Local and offline — no account, telemetry, or cloud service required

The idea is not to turn Obsidian into another IDE. It’s to make Obsidian + Typst feel like one writing environment.

For example, you can keep your research notes, references, figures, .typ source files, and generated PDFs together in the same vault while still using the actual Typst toolchain.

I’ve been using the plugin for real Typst documents and i’m continuing to improve the integration.

If you use Typst and Obsidian, I’d be interested in feedback on the workflow, particularly around project structure, previews, bibliographies, and larger documents.
