Performance: slow when long lists are folded, but fast when unfolded

Steps to reproduce

  • Create a note with ~5000 words, bulleted lists. The problem doesn’t appear on notes with ~1000 words
  • Fold the lists so it fits on a page.
  • Try shifting a line up, for example. Headers specifically take longer to re-render (slower on mobile)
  • The problem does not appear when lists are unfolded, or folded and in a code fence.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Yes, tried in Sandbox.

Environment

MacOS: 15.7.x

iPadOS, iOS: 18.7.x

Obsidian: 1.11.5

Please

  1. Attach, link, dm me a note where this happens
  2. Provide the output of “show debug info command”
  3. Attach or link to a screen recording showing this problem happening in the sandbox vault.

Thanks

I am adding here the test file you provided. Test file.md (16.4 KB)

I am able to reproduce a slowdown but I have to cripple my CPU performance to perceive a difference.

What are your computer specs exactly?

It’s barely noticable on my M1 mac. But on both mobile devices, it’s much worse. And the folding is more important on mobile with limited screen size.

was going to create a new topic about somethign similar:

the rendering/loading is extremely poor if the page is of any extended length.

i had a markdown table of more than 3500 lines and more than 9 columns and it was completely unusable. for finding in page or editing.

much smaller programs like notepad++ handle without issue
