Password Protecting Local Vaults

Use case or problem

There should be an option to password protect local vaults. Currently this option only exists for publishing or syncing. However, some of the data I enter in my local vaults is confidential and sensitive and sometimes my laptop can be used by other family members as well. If they click on the Obsidian app, it instantly provides them access to all the notes which can be problematic and the data can be easily compromised.

Proposed solution

I would propose adding a feature which lets you enter a password to then access your local vaults instead of instantly opening up the notes.

Password protecting won’t do any good. The files are stored locally and in plain text, your family members can access your notes just by browsing your files in your computer. They don’t need to open Obsidian.

You need to password protect your computer, and even better encrypt your files at rest using something like bitlocker on windows or FileVault on mac.
