Additional information

afaik, everything works fine for alphanumerical symbols before the underscore but all other things i tested trigger markdown formatting. replacing _ with * always leads to md formatting.
while i have observed the display bug only in inline footnotes, there is a similar thing happening with autocompletion: the second underscore for md formatting is added when inside inline math after non-alphanumeric characters.

You can escape the formatting with a backslash.

a^[$()\_n$]. This is no longer cursive.

Unfortunately, this also escapes the underscore in latex and thus I don’t get a subscript anymore but an underscore.

will be fixed in v1.6.0
