Outline flickers when typing with many headings scrolled to bottom (repost)

Summary:

When a note contains numerous headings (over 70) and the Outline pane is scrolled to the very bottom, the Outline pane flickers every few seconds while typing in the note. This is distracting for users who utilize many headings.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open the Sandbox vault.
  2. Create a new note.
  3. Dock the Outline view next to the note.
  4. Create over 70 headings in the note (e.g., #### MM/DD).
  5. Scroll the Outline view to the very bottom.
  6. Start typing in the note.

Actual Result:

The Outline view flickers every few seconds.

Expected Result:

The Outline view should remain stable without flickering.

Temporary Workarounds:

  • Reduce the number of headings.
  • Avoid scrolling the Outline view to the bottom or significantly down.

Impact:

I frequently create notes with a large number of headings. The flickering is distracting and inconvenient. I would appreciate a fix for this.

I will attach a video demonstrating this behavior.

I’ve encountered the same bug in Obsidian. I have a file with over 500 headings, and though it only contains around 30k words, it has become sluggish that it’s almost unusable. It’s noticeably more laggy than editing a document with over a million words. Every time I type words, the Outline panel flickers many times and then freezes for about 3-5 seconds before responding. Due to certain requirements, I need to keep all these headings in a single document, so this problem is particularly troubling for me.

this is a duplicate of Outline tab does not stay collapsed and scrolls while typing (expands, unfolds headings)
