Opening Anki from Obsidian link / Opening other Apps from inside Obsidian

What I’m trying to do

I would like to open Anki from an obsidian link, or similar.

My daily-note template has a task to ‘use anki’ and I would like to add a link to that task to open Anki.

I notice that there are a lot of plugins for syncing data and creating flashcards, which I will start to use soon, but for now I would just like to open Anki and perhaps directly go to one of my pre-existing decks.

I imagine I would like to be able to open other apps in a similar way at some point. e.g. like open <Application> on the command-line.

Things I have tried

  • adding a link [anki](anki://deck)
  • trying to find a file-format that would allow me to make use of Obsidian’s Open in default App
  • scan reading the docs for the anki integration plugins

I found one solution, using the Shell commands plugin and using the URI feature.

For anyone who is interested my Shell command for Anki is open /Applications/Anki.app as I’m on OSX.

Is there a way to do it without plugins?
