I have set up Obsidian sync on 2 Mac computers and my iphone. I have pointed the computer to store files on the HD for each (except the phone which i don’t really know where it puts it). I’m trying not to use anything that is synced with Cloud. I think the HD is the only place that Cloud doesn’t sync?
Anyway, each time I close down the Obsidian App, it’s created a new version of the Sync folder. Yesterday I dragged it out, backed it up, and when I’ve opened it this morning, there is now a vault within a vault again! Also, the large amount of template and set up i’d done in Obsidian hasn’t saved…
I’m so confused why is obsidian making new vaults inside the vault, and using the same name for it? I’ve tried redirecting it from the vault set up several times, but i’m quite new to all this, and i’m very confused.
Things I have tried
Re-directing Obsidian Sync to the correct folder.
Searched other foruhttps://forum.obsidian.md/ms but can’t see this issue
It depends what folder you chose. Can you share the path that you chose for your vault?
OR, on your Mac, you can right click in Finder, on the top bar where it has the columns, like Name, Date Modified, etc. Right click on that top column, and choose “iCloud Status”
If you see that as an option, then it means you are in a folder that is synced with iCloud. And that is probably the cause of the problem. (I don’t know how to check in iOS.)
I couldn’t see that pop up, and have looked high and low. But I think you’re right, I think icloud was backing something up that I didn’t realise. The cloned folders were epic. I tried going in to find how many times it duplicated what I thought was the sync folder, but it was so many times I couldn’t get to the bottom level. Weird. Clearly something i’m doing wrong. I just went back and followed the steps again. I’ve re-established my sync folder and very carefully made sure it’s not in icloud. I’m very much hoping to wake up tomorrow with only one of them.
