Obsidian Sync: Data loss after Migrating to another phone (android)

We had a few reports of users who bought a new Android phone and used the phone migration procedure to move their data.

Supposedly, when they started using Obsidian, their notes were not present but the vault was set up and sync was active. It seems that this could have caused the Obsidian Sync to push a mass deletion of all their files to the other devices.

We would like to know from the users affected by this problem to describe precisely their experience.

In particular:

  1. Which software did they use for migration?
  2. After the migration, did they have to open their vault or was the vault already open?
  3. Where exactly did they store their vault?
  4. Did they have to log in into obsidian or was Obsidian already logged in?
  5. Did they have to connect to Sync or was Sync already connected.
  6. Attach sync logs if you have them.
  7. Any other relevant info.

Thanks!

This comes from the support box. Ticket 98234.

Which software did they use for migration?
Google Pixel 9 Pro’s built-in automatic new phone migration.

After the migration, did they have to open their vault or was it already
open?

The vault was already open.

Where exactly did they store their vault?
Default Android location — looks like:
/storage/emulated/0/Documents/[My Vault]/[Vault]

Did they have to log into Obsidian, or was it already logged in?
Already logged in, pretty sure.

Did they have to connect to Sync, or was it already connected?
Already connected. It synced immediately. I didn’t notice anything was off
until I searched for an older note and realized it was missing.

Attach sync logs if you have them.
The sync logs received do not reflect this instance, so only using the debug info provided.

Any other relevant info?
One interesting note: some deletions appeared to be attributed to my
desktop. I’m certain I didn’t delete anything from the desktop. My guess is
that it was just the first device to sync after setting up the new phone.

From 99979 ticket.

It was android, migrated from Google pixel 6 to 7

Md files where deleted. Jpegs stayed. I don’t know the details exactly, as I migrated a few weeks ago

Unable to get more details, but we know that the migration was involved.
