Obsidian Publish `image/cover` property as a link

Use case or problem

Obsidian Bases Cards allows to use Image property which can be a link or path (Cards view - Obsidian Help).
Links are very useful, as I can easily select image [in a property] via link rather than looking for a path, and I’m able to see where a given image is used.

BUT Obsidian Publish only allows to use a path for link previews (image/cover property, Social media link previews - Obsidian Help ).

Proposed solution

Allow use links for social media link previews as well. It would be consistent to have one property image/cover that accepts links and works both for Obsidian Bases [Cards] and Obsidian Publish media previews.

Current workaround

To keep consistency [one property] I need to use paths in image/cover property, so it works both for Bases Cards and Publish,
otherwise I need to have 2 distinct properties one accepting links [and that one I’m using in Cards], and image/cover for paths [Publish], but still it is a duplication, and harder to maintain.

For example, I have a note with frontmatter as follows:

---
cover: [[Image.png]]
---

And I expect it to work with:

  • Obsidian Bases cards by setting Image property: cover (it works fine)
  • Obsidian Publish social media link previews (not working as accepts a path)

The current workaround is using a path as follows:

---
cover: "Attachments/Image.png"
---

But I lose backlinks from Image.png perspective - I don’t know where it is used, or it is harder to search for that using Obsidian Bases or Obsidian Dataview, as matching filenames, instead of traversing using links.
