Obsidian Pandoc Installation Troubleshooting

I initially had problems installing and activating Pandoc in Obsidian. This is what worked for me. The solution was in the issues section below, to find, copy, and paste the path in the Pandoc settings.

To access Pandoc functionality from the Pandoc plugin in Obsidian, follow these steps:

  1. Install the Pandoc plugin from the Obsidian community plugins.
  2. Ensure Pandoc is installed on your system. If not, download and install it from the official Pandoc website.
  3. Open Obsidian and press Ctrl+P/Cmd+P to bring up the command palette.
  4. Search for “Pandoc” in the command palette.
  5. Choose your desired export format from the available options.
  6. If successful, you’ll see a confirmation message.
  7. The exported file will be saved in the same folder as your original note, with the appropriate file extension.

If you encounter issues with the plugin not finding Pandoc, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Reboot your system to ensure the PATH variable is up to date.
  2. Open Terminal (on Mac) or PowerShell (on Windows) and type which pandoc (Mac) or Get-Command pandoc (Windows) to find the Pandoc installation path.
  3. Copy the path returned by the command.
  4. In Obsidian, go to Settings > Pandoc Plugin settings.
  5. Paste the copied path into the “Pandoc path” field.
  6. Close and reopen Obsidian.

You should be good to go!
