Obsidian not recognizing updated installer after manual installation

What I’m trying to do

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Obsidian (v1.8.9), but I’m still getting the message telling me that I need to manually download and reinstall to update the Installer, which it says is currently version v1.4.13.

I am using Windows 10 Pro. It is a work computer. My main log in does not have admin privileges but I have an admin login. I used that to update Obsidian “for all users”. The installed version is showing 1.8.9, so it appears to have worked. I don’t know how to check the installer version, except by looking at the App info in Obsidian. I don’t see on the Obsidian download page what the latest version of the Installer is supposed to be.

It’s similar to this issue, but the solution didn’t work for me: “Update available” notification when on latest version - Help - Obsidian Forum

Please let me know what I can do to make sure I have the latest Installer installed and get rid of the persistent notification.

To check installer version, run the command Show debug info from the Command palette. Om mac there is also an About Obsidian which displays both versions, and I reckon you could find something similar in the help menu in Windows.

See below. It says that the installer version is too low, but again, I just updated the program manually, so I’m not sure what else to do. It also doesn’t tell me what version number the Installer should be.

Is it possible that you have multiple versions of obsidian installed on your computer? perhaps one for “all users” and one just for you?

That may be it. It looks like the newest version is installed in C:\Program Files and there is an install in \AppData\Local as well that was last modified in September 2023. What’s weird is that When I open Obsidian, it shows the latest version.

What do you suggest I do? Try to uninstall the local install (after backing up the vault of course)?
