Obsidian drag file to open tab or pane is broken

I accidentally an open file onto the open pane and this completely changed the function of dragging.

Now, when I drag a filename onto an open file this will make a link to the file I dragged instead of opening a new tab. Further, I can no longer drag a file name to make side by side panes which slows down my workflow considerably.

Please suggest fixes as I don’t want to have to completely re-install obsidian.

I tried reinstalling obsidian and the snapping behaviour is still broken.

Not sure whether what you see is broken or is normal behavior. Dragging a file from the file explorer into a note is supposed to create a link to that file.

  • Just click on the file to open it, replacing the current note
  • Hold Ctrl and click on a file to open it in a new tab
  • If you prefer to drag, drag it to the tab bar.

You can just drag a file to open it if no notes are open yet. If that is what is currently not anymore working for you, then also provide information about your Obsidian version and your operating system.
