Obsidian android cant open vault on cifs/samba shares

only my phone is small enough to carry 24hx7.

i put my vault there, and share out to PC using samba (using an app called LAN drive, together /w a paid program called verigio port forwarder).

then, if i want to edit on the vault.
using windows PC to access the phone’s vault is OK, as told above.

but, if i want to edit using a chromebook/android tablet,
the android/CB apk didn’t allow access to the vault, even after it’s mounted.

file handling is always a pain in android.

that’s it.

ps, to “mount” a cifs/smb share onto android/CB, you need google’s ABONDANDED smb mount client. google is just a strange monster…

Replying here because I’d like to see it work for me as well.

I’ve got CIFS Documents Provider mounting a shared folder from my home storage via a VPN. Once I enable “use as local storage” in CIFS Documents Provider, the is discoverable to Obsidian on Android, but I get an error message and it doesn’t connect.

My temporary fix here is to use another app to sync the shared folder to a local folder with a sync app like FolderSync, but now my phone notetaking experience is busy and clunky, requiring me to open FolderSync and initiate the sync before starting up Obsidian if I’ve made changes to the files on any other devices (which is common because I’m mostly a PC user).

It would be really helpful for me if Obsidian could just treat my shared folder as any other storage if it’s already recognized in the file picker, because I could have instant parity between all of my devices.

I have the same setup too going at the moment, and all its doing is just draining more battery than it should’ve if Obsidian could access my mounted device.
