Steps to reproduce
- Open the Obsidian Android app
- Roughly 85% of the time, the bug occurs
Did you follow the troubleshooting guide?
- Yes
Expected result
- Obsidian sync should sync consistently and automatically each time the app is launched
Actual result
- About 85% of the time I open the Obsidian Android app, sync hangs indefinitely on “Sync: Connecting to server” until I force restart the app, at which point it syncs no problem
- This creates a lot of friction, because I have to check each time I open the app if sync is hanging or not, before I can start reading / writing (so I don’t get merge conflicts)

Additional information
- First, I open the Obsidian android app
- Checking the right side panel, I confirm the bug has occurred (sync is hanging on “Connecting to server”)
- From past experience, no matter how long you wait, sync will remain stuck in this state indefinitely
- To get Obsidian to sync, I force close the app and re-open it
- I check the right side panel to confirm Obsidian is syncing properly again
- Now I can start reading / writing notes safely
Ideas:
- I don’t think it’s a network issue; it has been happening on a variety of networks, for over a year (took me a while to narrow down the issue, and get around to addressing it)
- It occurs most consistently if you wait about 5 minutes before opening the app again; it might have to do with some Samsung battery saving shenanigans…
