Obsi - App to manage Obsidian tasks on mobile

I love the idea of keeping TODOs together with my Obsidian notes, but managing tasks on mobile has always felt inconvenient. So, I built Obsi — a simple TODO app that reads tasks directly from Obsidian markdown files. It lets you mark tasks as done, add new ones, assign them to today, and more, all while keeping everything in sync with your notes.

If you’re using Obsidian for task management, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Any feedback or feature suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think it’s great that someone is taking the initiative to develop an Android app for task management. I’d like to suggest a few improvements to enhance the user experience:

  • Filtering: it would be useful to be able to filter tasks by specific tags, such as using #task to distinguish between tasks and non-tasks.
  • Search bar: a search bar in the inbox to quickly find a specific task would be very practical.
  • Widget: although this might be a bit ambitious, a widget for task management would be a huge help in staying organized at all times.

I hope these suggestions are helpful. Thanks for developing Obsi!

I made an account just to post here because I’m in love with it! I’ve only used it for a tiny bit, but it already ticks so many boxes! I love that I can load in tasks from the inbox, and that I also have the choice to just make them appear naturally just editing one specific file. It’s exactly the right amount of freedom I need! I was on the verge of making something like this myself, but I could never do it this well.

I have a few suggestions for the app:

  1. It is nearly impossible to find this app unless you know of it. Obsi gets automatically interpreted as ‘obsidian’ in the search engines and I stumbled upon this by searching “markdown-based task app android”. If I mention Obsidian in any way, I just get redirected to the download page.
My suggestion is adding a little bit to the name so it doesn’t autocomplete to Obsidian anymore.

  2. I’d like to see the ability to make reminders either persistent, or to make pressing the notification snooze them until you actually finish the task. If I click on it, and it disappears, then it’s out of my mind the moment I tab out. I don’t mind whether it’s a global option or a per-task option, but I want the option for it to annoy me and not leave me alone. The dream is a default and a per-task ability to set both the importance (like, whether it can break through silent mode and interrupt other things), and the stickiness of them. I know this is a lot, and just a global stickiness option to make the tasks more annoying would already be fantastic.

  3. I have a lot of tasks on obsidian, and the inbox flattens them. I’d really like to see the tasks sorted and collapsible under headers, as well as the ability to import the entire header to my task list

  4. And with the eye on organization, I’d love to see nested tasks too. I use these quite a lot as a way of splitting larger tasks into smaller ones. As it stands, the app doesn’t quite know how to handle them and doesn’t allow me to move them out of the inbox. Actually, now that I’m properly testing it out, this is quite buggy and certainly needs attention :exclamation:

Lastly, I’m looking forward to the Task plugin supporting datetime. Once they do, can you use the google dial? I prefer that through scrolling through times.

Regardless of whether my suggestions get implemented or not (though 4 needs attention regardless), I already love working with it. It’s much more human and polished then I would have expected from a project like this! So often deep productivity apps look like they’re intended either for on a pc, or for people carrying a microscope, with UIs straight out of Android 2.4. This is leagues above what I would have settled for and I’m so happy with it!

thank you su much for so detailed feedback! I’m currently working on iOS version and bug fixing and then I will take a look closer on items you listed (filtering, sorting are must have of course)

I am excited for this! There is seemingly a million different ways that tasks are used by everyone but I think filtering is going to solve a lot of problems. Personally, I have a ton of tasks in my vault on various project notes but I don’t actually care about them until I put a due date on them, so not seeing any undated tasks is particularly useful for me. I also don’t see any task name on the notifications, which would be useful along with the other notification suggestions.
Thank you so much for this app!

Now you can use global filter in settings and search in Today/Inbox screens, hopefully it will help to manage big number of tasks

Nice! That global filter feature sounds like a game changer

Very excited to see this coming to life! Thank you for letting us benefit from your hard work.

The app looks extremely promising ! +1 on the android widget, and I’d love to be able to set a default reminder time to get all my reminders in the morning for my daily tasks
