It would be helpful if there was a clear notification that the app was updated on start. There could be a modal that shows or links to the release notes as well as a link to the help vault.

+1 on this. I have a couple of ideas that I would like to share for this approach

  • Like VSCode, they have a little bell icon on the statusbar to show notifications and updates

  • Notion and Roam approach where it has a button on the bottom right of the application, but indicating updates and shortcuts

A combination of those two would be sweet, but there is a feeling of distraction if it floats near the editor, so I would prefer the notification hovering above the statusbar

Agreed. Especially in beta, we want people to update to the newest version as soon as they can to avoid having an old version for too long.
