Newbie Q: Where should I place my favicon?

I’ve reviewed this help file, but I could not figure out where to put my favicon

What I’m trying to do

Attach my favicon so it will show up in my published site.

Things I have tried

I placed the favicon in my image folder, as well as in the root folder, and it didn’t show up in either location when I went to publish changes.

Any help and feedback will be genuinely appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You have flexibility in placing favicons anywhere within the vault, as long as they are published to your site.

Maybe it is just taking time to refresh on the server? Depending on the browser, you can try ctrl-shift-R (I think) to force reload.

Thank you, @rigmarole, for your prompt and helpful feedback.
Seems I missed the obvious location info in the help file.

The trick seems to be getting the favicon published. I’ve tried putting it in multiple places within my vault, including the root folder and several of the subfolders in my menu tree, but the .ico file never showed up anywhere in the OBS Publish interface, so I was unable to select it for publication.

In light of this, I finally opted to change the file name:
~ From: favicon-32x32.ico < Which may not have been properly formatted
~ To: favicon.ico

This did finally allow the favicon to be selected for publication.

But it is still not showing up in the browser, even after clearing my cache and trying your refresh suggestion.

I guess I’ll just check again in the AM ~ and if it’s still not showing up, I’ll try a .png file, instead. . . . . unless you have any other suggestions and/or recommendations?

Oh, hurray! Just now noticed that it finally did work, after all.

Thank you immensely, Chris, for helping me get this sorted. :folded_hands: Very much appreciate you taking time to help out a newbie!

Glad you got it partially sorted. I don’t actually use Publish, so I wasn’t sure.

Was changing it to png the thing that solved it?

Because all the size examples do seem to be using png.

Yeah, the image name turned out to be the issue, since the incorrect file format prevented me from being able to publish the file.

I actually ended up using the .ico extension, which is one of the permitted formats.
But I had to remove the image dimensions because they (apparently) don’t work with .ico files.

And yes, you are correct: most (but not all) of the accepted file formats are actually .png
