New Plugin: SpeakNote – Record, Transcribe & Save Notes With 1 Click (Seeking Beta Testers)

Hey everyone :waving_hand:

I just published a new Obsidian plugin called SpeakNote, and I’m looking for 5–10 testers to help refine the MVP before submitting it to the community plugin store.

:studio_microphone: What SpeakNote does:

  • Click the mic → record instantly
  • Audio saved automatically in a folder
  • Auto-transcription using Deepgram, AssemblyAI, or OpenAI Whisper
  • Transcript opens in a new note
  • Floating audio player for playback
  • Progress overlay during transcription

  • Deepgram (great accuracy)
  • AssemblyAI (very good multilingual)
  • OpenAI Whisper (English-focused)

  1. Download ZIP:
    Attached

  2. Extract into:
    .obsidian/plugins/obsidian-speaknote

  3. Enable in Obsidian

  4. Add your API key in Settings → SpeakNote

Hello. It’s a useful and needed plugin, I wanted to clarify a couple of points:

  • How does it differ from the Zeddal or SystemSculptAI plugins, which essentially do the same thing?
  • Will the plugin be paid, or can it be used for free with our own API keys?

SpeakNote is designed to fill a specific niche: fast, lightweight voice recording + transcription inside Obsidian, built for users who just want voice-to-text notes with minimal setup.

While plugins like SystemSculpt AI provide a full AI assistant, chat, embeddings, voice, templating and automation suite (and are subscription based), SpeakNote stays focused on recording → transcribing → note creation.

Zeddal also focuses on voice transcription, including advanced offline/model features—but with a heavier scope and possibly more complex setup.

With SpeakNote:

  • You can start using it for free today (just supply your API key)
  • There is no immediate charge from us; you only incur cost if you use transcription provider API
  • A premium version will be offered later for advanced capabilities, but the core voice-transcription-note workflow remains free for BYO API key users.

In short: if you’re looking for a simple, out-of-the-box voice-to-note plugin that you control (with your own API key) and you aren’t ready for full AI assistant workflows, SpeakNote offers an ideal balance of usability, flexibility and privacy.
