Network Connections (Network Traffic)

I asked you to open a FR about the dictionaries, which you ignored and you opened a request about everything simply copy/pasting what you already wrote here on top of adding some incorrect information. We can keep the broad conversation about Network connection here. Thanks

Regarding the dictionaries, my comment wasn’t misrepresenting your concern. If the concern is that the app makes a download request, it doesn’t make a difference if the request is made to a Google-owned CDN, a cloudflare-owned CDN, or a fleet of severs we might employ (and pay for). The problem is the request itself and that whoever is at the receiving end of that can record that “a request for downloading the English dictionary was made by ip XYZ”. For this reason, I don’t think the Signal solution of moving the request from google to something else is a good one, and that’s why I wrote the FR that way.

We host the obsidian installation files on Github (Microsoft). Github could and probably does recording that “IP xyz downloaded Obsidian-Installer.exe”. It’s the same problem.

I personally don’t believe that this is privacy problem. You have the right to disagree with me. You can support that Feature Request, you can firewall the app, you can sandbox the app, or you can use something else.
