Native handing of images by not placing them as files in the left files view

Use case or problem

When pasting an image to a markdown, the image is added to the file list panel on the left. This is messy and does not align with what you would like to see on this list. Most likely you only want to see the markdown files.

Example: Past image

shows in the file list on the left

Proposed solution

  1. Introduce a view for markdown files and a view for images
  2. Automatically place these pasted images in a separate folder

Current workaround (optional)

Created a “images” directory and move the images to this directory once it was pasted. This is an extra step by the user that should not be required.

There is a setting that will automatically place new attachments in a specified folder
Files & Links > Default location for new attachments

Thank you @joethei Appreciate that!!

I have changed the setting.

I think an improved way might be to link the dropped images under the note/document that the attachement was dropped into. Something like the example below.

Example:

This way an attachement assigned to a note will be linked to the note. It might involve

  • some UI changes to make it look and feel sleek,
  • handling of deleted notes that had attachements under it but linked elsewhere
  • etc

But I think this will make it more compact.

Ill use as is and see if this makes sense with more experience of the product. Loving it thou! I used to use Roam Research. The images are obfuscated away, which I did not particularly liked, but it reduced the clutter.
