Even if I specify the folder for my new notes (from settings - default location for new notes) it just seems doesn’t work. I mean, when i create a new note, new note placed on vault folder. Is this a bug? How to fix it?
Things I have tried
I tried to restart Obsidian multiple times, tried to change folder name, and look for to plugins may overlap with it. But everything seems fine.
Also, did you hand-type the folder, or did you let the auto-complete work, and then choose from the dropdown list? Maybe there is a typo (maybe an extra space, or a missing slash, or a duplicate folder name?)
How are you making the new note, specifically? Which command, or menu, or hotkey?
Oh! That’s why. Right-clicking in a folder is how you tell Obsidian to add a note in that specific folder.
The “Default location” setting is when you make a new note by hitting Ctrl-N, or if you make a new link [[New Link]] inside a note, and follow it to create a new note.
Yeah I hear you. The blank space is the root of your vault.
In earlier versions, the name of your vault was at the top of the files pane, appearing like a top-level folder. And people (myself included) would try to drag files there and it wouldn’t work. You were meant to drag to the empty space. (Or was it the other way around? I forget.) That was confusing. And now that the vault name is moved to the bottom, it might be even less clear in cases like this.
