What I’m trying to do
So I had a canvas file in which I was writing basically daily and I was doing the same today when my power went out. And when i try opening it again it just says: Failed to open “”
Things I have tried
I tried renaming the vault as I have seen recommended, nothing. Ive tried downloading and older version of Obsidian, nothing. I completely reinstalled obsidian, nothing. I still have the file and even tried opening it in VS code and all i get is NULL through the whole page. Idk is there anything that can be done?
If the file is corrupt from a power outage, reinstalling Obsidian isn’t going to fix it.
But I’m very concerned by how you said “completely”. What does “completely reinstalled” mean? I hope that doesn’t mean you deleted the existing app settings folder? (Not your vault configuration, but %APPDATA%/Obsidian/
where the app stores data.)
If so, it’s possible you deleted the File Recovery snapshots. Otherwise if you just downloaded and reinstalled, it might be fine.
Have you tried the File Recovery core plugin? Go to snapshots and search the name of the note.
As a side note, if you aren’t keeping regular backups, now would be a great time to look into that so this never happens again. Power outages, hard drive failures, and random mistakes happen.
