I have noticed within the last week that Obisidan Sync has been having an issue with my Daily Notes. Here’s my situation:
I have two devices set up on my Sync: My laptop and my Phone. Whichever device I open first of a new day, creates a new daily note, I will add text and make comments, this works fine. However, when I use my second device for the first time in the day, it will create a new blank daily note that overrides all the work I have done. For some reason after both daily notes have been created by each device, it will then use the same note.
I have “open daily notes” turned on start for both devices
Things I have tried
I have tried finding other people having a similar position however I cannot find any
I have checked and any format error in the daily notes settings
I am turning off “open daily note on startup” to see if this fixes it tomorrow
I double-checked, and both Valuts are stored on the local drive of their respective device. I haven’t upgraded either operating system since before I encountered this bug.
After turning off “open daily note on startup” and creating the document with my phone, today I was able to avoid the bug. I don’t really understand what I did differently and I prefer to start the daily notes document on my computer.

Your installer version is very old, so perhaps @rigmarole 's suspicion was correct. You need to download the latest Obsidian installer from the Obsidian website, and then reinstall Obsidian using that installer.
+1 I agree, it’s worth a shot. But the last version I know that specifically asked to download fresh was 1.4.13.
Also try with plugins disabled just to test and make sure it isn’t some plugin interaction. And update all community plugins, if you haven’t already. (Basically everything the “Show Debug Info” RECOMMENDATIONS says to try.)
Thanks! I have updated Obsidian on my computer, do I need to update my phone version? I also uninstalled the Calendar community plugin as it uses daily notes to display a calendar, there may have been a bug in there. I also will try working with different plugins on/off as the days continue.
Very similar to what I was experiencing, however, if I create the daily document on my computer there should be plenty of time for file to upload to the server.
For instance, one time my phone had overwritten the daily note document from my computer that had been used for three plus continuous hours after the initial start-up of the day. That should have given the document plenty of time to be properly synced up.
It does say “issues for users who automatically generate or alter notes on startup” which was what I was doing so maybe the error was in the feature all along?
Edit: I will try and record the event happening, and if it does occur again, Ill also try and copy the Sync log to see if that helps locate the problem
Right after I finally marked this thread as solved of course the bug strikes again.
This time the sync error occurred after I had already opened the daily notes on my phone. I must have turned “open daily notes on startup”, it looks like my phone created a new note then it uploaded to the vault and overwrote my previously created note.
The event occurred at the bottom. Is there a way to get the previous note “file Daily Notes/May-7th-2024.md” back?
Yes, I believe that is what is happening. Regardless I would still think it’s an unintended feature that could hopefully be coded out of existence. However, the solution to fix it when it occurs is not hard.
