Use case or problem

Obsidian desktop has a handy feature where you can open the current tab in a new window, but on mobile that’s missing. Chrome for android supports multiple windows and it’s really useful, especially on tablets/folding phones where you can view both. It’d also be useful for samsung dex or the new desktop mode in the android 16 qpr beta.

Proposed solution

Enable Open current tab in new window on obsidian for android

Current workaround (optional)

split screen within the window is ok, but it’s a lot harder to multitask with obsidian and other apps

I don’t know if this solves your problem already, but you can as felixchenier mentioned just drag your note out of your obsidian instance and it opens in a new window. Same is possible if you use the comand pallette (CTRL + P) and select “Open current tab in new window” or “Move current tab to new window” Nevertheless: I love the aforementioned capability, but what I am rather painfully missing is the right sidebar, so that I can see e.g. back links and outgoing links right next to my newly c…

Platform [X] iOS (iPad-specific) Obsidian Mobile version: v0.0.16 iPad supports multiple windows of a single app in various modes (standalone, slide-over, split view). Obsidian does not currently support this. With multi-window support, multiple Obsidian windows could be opened that each operate independently. This would enable multiple vaults to be opened simultaneously, for instance, or could also allow different files within the same vault to be opened at the same time.
