Use case or problem
On mobile (iOS), for the Quick Actions toolbar at the bottom of the screen I often forget which icon corresponds to the action I’m looking for. There are a lot of useful actions I want in the toolbar, but the icons aren’t always super intuitive (e.g. the icon for “Insert Footnote” is paper and a pencil).
Current workaround
Currently I need to open the toolbar editor menu by pressing the wrench icon, and then manually search for which icon corresponds to the action I want.
Sometimes I’m also able to use the quick command palette (e.g. for “Insert math block”), but this doesn’t work for all commands (e.g. you can’t “Indent list item” from the palette) or I just don’t remember the specific name of the command either.
Proposed solution
I’d like to propose for it to show a tooltip with the action’s name if the user presses and holds any icon. If they release while still on top of the icon, it’ll perform the action. Otherwise if they drag their finger away from the toolbar and then release, it won’t perform the action.

The following topic is related and may possibly conflict with my proposal. I do really like their idea of showing more options if you hold an icon, but I’d hope that it could still support showing action names even in submenus.
