Markdown link without extension

What I’m trying to do

I want to use Obsidian with markdown-links, but without the .md-extension. So [Text](Parent/Child) instead of [Text](Parent/Child.md).

Is there a way to make this the default behavior when adding links?

The reason is I’m trying to manage a Gitlab wiki with Obsidian and this is how Gitlab wiki links work.

I couldn’t find a topic or a plug-in that does this

I only found Updating Internal Links: Removes File Extension When Using Markdown Links, which mentions the behavior I would like as a bug and then fixes it
