Lost Obsidian after formatting

Hello, I lost Obsidian after formatting my C drive. I have my “Obsidian” folders on another drive. How can I restore them to a vault, and will the links be lost?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Obsidian by default is installed on the C: drive.
Install it and point it to a vault on D: and that’s it.
If you had other vaults on C: as well, and you don’t have backups on a drive or in the cloud, those are gone then.

If you have your vault folders safely stored on another drive, do this:

  • Make sure you have your vault safely backed up.
  • Open Obsidian (Reinstall Obsidian if you haven’t installed it yet.)
  • Go to “Manage vaults” or run the command “Open another vault”, or under the menu, “Open vault”. Those open the vault switcher.
  • Choose “Open folder as vault” and browse to the folder where you stored your vault. This is the folder that contains a hidden .obsidian folder with all your settings.
  • If you point it to the right folder, all your links should still be working just fine. You will likely still have to turn off restricted mode to enable plugins. But all your settings should still be stored, assuming you copied your entire vault to that drive.
