Looking for Advice on Setting Up My Obsidian Vault
I’ve been using Obsidian for a bit now, but I’d still consider myself an amateur. I’ve got a long list of goals I want to accomplish, but I’m not 100% sure on the how. I also really like the UI from MAKE.MD, but I’m torn because I feel like it changes too much overall, and I’m not sure it’s worth the trade-off.
I’m also a truck driver, so mobile compatibility (Android) is super important for me. Ideally, I’d love to have a way to use a voice assistant or some kind of voice input system to easily call and verbally add to a note while I’m on the road. Something like that would make my life MUCH MUCH easier.
So, I figured I’d ask here: What are some good ways (plugins, workflows, structure ideas, etc.) to pull this all together?
Here’s What I’m Trying to Do:
-
A Centralized Hub for All My Stuff
I want one place where I can keep all my thoughts, ideas, and knowledge so I don’t lose anything. Easy to find, easy to access, and it needs to work well on mobile. -
Track and Prioritize My To-Dos
- Track various to-dos (quick tasks, ongoing tasks, prioritized stuff).
- Make sure it’s easy to organize, sort, and prioritize from my phone while I’m on the move.
- Suggestions for plugins or workflows for organizing tasks would be great.
-
Plan and Brainstorm Projects
I need a space to plan out and brainstorm projects like:- Coding
- Fanfiction ideas
- Android/Windows optimization and customization resources.
(I keep forgetting useful stuff I come across!)
-
Store Information and Media
I need a spot to save links, images, files, and notes—basically anything I want to look at later or reference/share. -
Daily Planning That I Can Update Throughout the Day
I’m looking for a simple daily planner setup where I can:- Start with a basic plan
- Make quick updates throughout the day from my phone as things shift around.
-
Dump “Rogue” Thoughts and Questions
I get a lot of random thoughts and questions that I don’t want to lose. I need somewhere to dump them quickly, preferably with voice input while I’m driving. Later, I can sort them into:- Ideas I want to build on
- Questions I need to research
- Miscellaneous notes.
-
Track ADHD Behaviors and Experiences
I want to document my ADHD-related experiences and behaviors in a clean, organized way:- Start with a “To Research” status for things I’m unsure about.
- Once researched, categorize behaviors as:
- Good, bad, beneficial, harmful, etc.
- Habit, skill, learned behavior, etc.
- Add a priority level (high, medium, low).
- Separate out anything not related to ADHD/Autism so I can keep things tidy.
Any suggestions for plugins, templates, or workflows to manage this efficiently?
-
Build a Personal “About Me” Profile
I want to create a detailed personal profile—kind of like a “get to know me” section but way deeper. This would include stuff like:- Habits, preferences (music, media, etc.), and skill levels
- Life events and milestones
- Areas I think I need to improve
- My general thoughts and feelings on different topics.
-
Profiles for People in My Life
I’d like to keep track of people in my life (personal and professional). Profiles would include:- Useful info: birthdays, habits, life events, preferences
- My thoughts about them, and what I think they think about me.
-
Medicated Productivity Tasks
When I take my ADHD medication, I have a lot of pent-up motivation and energy, so I want a separate spot to pull from. Something that includes:- Quick wins to keep the momentum going
- More challenging tasks I normally avoid
- Creative or idea-based tasks I can dive into while focused.
-
Capture and Build on Ideas
I get a lot of random ideas that I want to write down quickly, but I also need a way to build on them later. Ideally, I want to separate them into:- Quick thoughts that need minimal work
- Ideas that need more research or brainstorming
- Bigger concepts that could turn into full-on projects.
What I’m Stuck On:
- How do I structure all this? Should I use folders, tags, links, or a mix? What’s a good balance for keeping things organized but easy to use?
- Are there any specific plugins or workflows that you recommend? Especially for:
- Mobile note-taking (Android)
- Voice input while driving (something simple and reliable)
- Task management, daily planning, or ADHD tracking
- Does anyone here use MAKE.MD? I love its UI, but I feel like it changes too much. I’d love to hear if it’s worth sticking with or if there’s a better alternative.
- Any ideas for efficiently documenting ADHD behaviors (Point 7)? I’m worried it could get messy without the right setup.
I want something that’s powerful but still easy to use and maintain—especially while I’m on the road. Any advice, tips, or recommendations would be massively appreciated. Thanks a ton!
